How does a fax-to-mail work?  a normal fax is sent to an 086 number which is then stored on a server, and then converted to an image file (.tiff or.pdf) which is then sent to the recipient via e-mail as an attachement.

 

Here are some answers to FAQ's regarding Fax to E-mail: 

 Q. Is receiving faxes really free ? Will it stay a FREE service ? A. If you choose a FREEFAX number (086xxxxxxx) you don't pay a cent. NO SETUP , NO MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION - ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. This service will remain FREE and there is no limit to the number and size of faxes received.   

Q. Is sending faxes via email also free ? A. Email-to-fax is available but it's NOT FREE. For this service you need to purchase credits. Login, click on Purchase and follow the procedure.   

Q. If this is free how can you provide me with a sustainable service ? A. We receive our revenue from the calls made to your 086xxxxxxx fax number. Calls to your number are charged at R2.02 per minute (inc VAT) by Telkom and we receive a portion of that revenue. In return we can offer you a FREE service.   

Q. Each time I dial my allocated number I get a message that says the number does not exist ? A. These numbers can only be dialed from a Telkom line. If you try and dial it from a cellular phone then some of the cellular networks will report such a message or give an engaged tone. Some company PABX systems will also block access to these numbers, as they would calls to cellular networks.   

Q. Can my number receive calls from anywhere ? A. No for 0866xxxxxx numbers UNLESS you enable the FAX+ service. Without FAX+ calls can only be received from South African telecommunications networks. If you enable FAX+ on a 0866 number you can receive calls from anywhere, subscriptions on 011 and 084 numbers can receive calls from anywhere with or without FAXPLUS.   

Q. If I take a number and don't use it will it remain available ? A. No. We reserve the right to reclaim a number if there has been no usage for 60-days. You will receive a warning email prior to the number being reclaimed. As long as you receive at least one fax every 60-days the number will remain yours.   

Q. Do I need to install any special software ? A. No. The FAX is sent to you as a TIFF or PDF image attached to an email. Most operating systems have a default viewer applications installed.   Q. How long do I have to wait for a number  ? A. There's no delay. The moment you complete the sign-up process the number is allocated and activated, ready to take faxes and send them to your email.   

Q. Can I get an SMS notification each time a fax arrives ? A. Yes, but it's not a free service. The charge is R33 per 100 SMS notifications. You can login and purchase credits online   Please feel free to contact us for more info or a quote on any of these!
