Scanning: An image scanner is used to scan images, printed text, handwriting, or an object, and converts it to a digital image.

Digital images or files can be easily distributed, reproduced, and read on-screen. We normally scan to either TIFF, JPG, PDF or, the very useful Compact PDF.  

Scanning the document is only one part of the process. For the scanned image to be useful, it must be transferred from the scanner to an application running on the computer.

OCR:  After scanning, OCR or ICR software adjusts the document images by lining it up, cropping it, picture-editing it, and converting it to text format like ASCII or other similar format, which reduces the file size and allows the text to be reformatted, searched, or processed by other applications.  Usually a human P.A. must check the output for errors and "edit" the document.  Depending on the quality of the source document and resolution of scan, editing the document may be very time consuming.

Smartphone scanner apps: Most smartphone os now have a range of scanner apps available. These apps can scan multiple page documents with the use of the camera, and output them to a PDF document or as separate JPEG images. Some smartphone scanning apps can also save documents directly to online storage locations such as Dropbox, Evernote, send via email or fax documents via email-to-fax gateways

Recycling: Yes we do use a lot of paper.  Thats why...

• And we recycle our waste copies & prints.
